The school defines itself as academically non-selective where students are enrolled depending on their merit. The faculty spends time in getting to know each student individually, and guides them as they develop as per their strengths. German European School Singapore (GESS) takes various initiatives to hone the skills of students, such as having bi-lingual lessons in both German and English from the preschool level itself. One of the foremost among them is the Junior Engineer Academy where students of Grade 8 and 9 spend time researching and connecting with the best technology companies and universities across the world.
GESS touts a unique Mother Tongue Programme, offering both Danish and Dutch as a second language which is integrated with the main elective curriculum, to recognise the native language needs that regrettably oftentimes gets sidelined when pursuing a primary and secondary education in a foreign country.
Every year GESS holds an open house which allows parents and students alike to immerse themselves in the culture and familiarise themselves with the syllabus available at the school.
This campus is a one of its kind facility, the only one outside Europe. The school has recently shifted to a brand new fully equipped campus in Dairy Farm Lane where students from preschool through secondary study together under the same roof.
GESS offers dual International Baccalaureate (IB) and the German national curriculum education syllabus for interested parties. IB is held in English and the German ‘Arbitur’ curriculum of course is in the German language, and is justifiably known as one of the first out of country academic institutes to be recognised as an “Excellent German School Abroad”. Both courses is available for all ages, starting from 18 months of age up until 18 years old.
The building has excellent facilities as befits a top-notch European international school campus, such as (but not limited to) a 400-seater auditorium, design technology studios, indoor sports hall, visual arts studios, black box theatre, learning pods, drama facilities, outdoor plaza and play area.
