British International School Phuket was established in 1996 and has students from 45 different nationalities studying in the school. The school covers a purpose-built 44-acre campus where the majority of students are foreign nationals.
The school is divided into preschool, primary and secondary levels and offers the IB Diploma, IGCSE and the Cambridge ESOL examinations. The British International School Phuket also offers an externally assessed programme in spoken English from London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts.
The school was founded on the dream of Mr Prasit Ourairat and Dr Arthit Ourarat, two well-known Thai academics. Their objective was to start a global high quality day and boarding school on the beautiful Phuket island. The Prasit Patana Group made the vision come true in 1996.
The Board of Governors voted in 2005 to extend the courses offered at the school, and also took advantage of the opportunity to change their name to British International School Phuket. Currently British International School Phuket offers education for over 900 day and boarding school for students from about 60 different nationalities, with its graduates coming from various top universities around the world.
The curriculum puts an immense focus on developing the skills of researching, collaborating, communicating, thinking and self-managing. The school offers a wide range of IB courses such as art and design, business and management, design technology, economics, environmental systems and societies, music, psychology and theatre arts.
British International School Phuket’s learning ideology is based specifically on a Triple Helix model, in which each of the three strands of ‘Learning, Well being, and Passion’ is defined as interconnected and necessary elements of a healthy and fulfilling life.
While English is followed as the main language of communication, students are also offered courses in other languages such as Thai, Korean, Russian, Mandarin, French and Spanish.
Apart from the curriculum, the school also offers extensive co-curricular facilities. Students can take the Rock School examinations for music. The school also offers extensive sports facilities such as two swimming pools, football fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, playgrounds, a gym, design technology facilities, boarding houses and others.
