At SIS Sunway Iskandar, the Early Years through Grade 10 curriculum is based on the internationally renowned Ontario (Canada) Curriculum. It focuses on students’ individual learning and development as well as building character by acknowledging each individual’s unique personal strengths.
Both kindergarten programs will commence in September 2016 based on the requirements outlined in the 2016 Ontario Kindergarten Program. The Ontario Kindergarten Program (2016) lays out what the youngest students in the two-year kindergarten program should know. It also explains how educators help kids learn by playing and inquiring.
The Ministry of Education (Ontario) published the policy document “Increasing Success–The Kindergarten Addendum: Assessment, Review and Reporting at Ontario Schools, 2016” in accordance with the new Kindergarten Programme. Starting in September 2016, children’s learning assessment, review, and reporting will be based on the policies and practices outlined in this document.
Effective literacy and numeracy skills are essential building blocks for academic success. Elementary curriculum emphasizes these fields and slowly integrates age-appropriate academic material from other disciplines. Students participate in substantive curricula in a differentiated, student-centered manner that allows “speech and choice.”
Curriculum policy documents define what students in the Canadian (Ontario) curriculum will learn and be able to do at the end of each grade or course in each subject. The front topic offers important basic information about the curriculum itself and how learning interacts with policies, services, and goals of the Ministry of Education. The requirements of the program (overall and basic expectations) are the knowledge and skills that students are expected to show by the end of the degree in each subject at each point. Additional supports, glossaries, and overviews are included to provide additional guidance and information to support curriculum implementation.
The curriculum of Secondary School balances academic rigour with creative interests. Students are exposed to enjoyable and constructive learning, are involved in class discussions and are comfortable in discussing questions and ideas. The curriculum of the Secondary School includes subjects in Languages, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Social Studies, and the Arts, thereby building strong academic foundations in various fields of study.
The following subjects are usually offered but the School will decide the subject combinations and variations according to the needs of the students: English, mathematics, science and technology, social studies, health and physical education, languages (such as French, Malay, and Mandarin), and the Arts like visual arts, drama, music, dance.
In this segment of the Secondary School curriculum the School’s Laptop Program begins. Students use individual laptops to improve their independent study, interpretation, and research skills, while inferring concrete connections beyond their classrooms between textbooks and the world.
SSIS Sunway Iskandar was officially authorized, accredited, and admitted as World School of International Baccalaureate (IB). As such, the IB Diploma Program is delivered at the pre-university level in grades 11 and 12.
