The Australian International School Thao Dien, (or AIS) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam employs the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) with the complementary addition of elements taken from the Cambridge International Primary Programme (CIPP).
This truly international school was established in 2007, and is now both an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and a Cambridge International accredited school. Presently the school has over 1300 students from over 30 countries, and 100% of AIS graduates have been accepted at universities worldwide.
They make use of key features of PYP, particularly the Learner’s Profile, where children are honed to become at least one of 10 student-learning outcomes. With this, they allow different personalities and attributes of the children to shine through.
The Australian International School Thao Dien also teaches youngsters key concepts such as form, function, causation, change, connection, perspective, responsibility, and reflection in the form of questions. Aside from achieving academic excellence, the children are also aided in the development of their values, feelings, and beliefs.
AIS uses two types of assessment in their PYP, the formative assessment and summative assessment which functions differently but are both essential in the learning process. Alternatively, their enriched curriculum includes activities, such as a school sleepover, which expands the dimension of the learning process. This starts from the very beginning of school life: kindergarten.
During this time, children aged 18 months to five years old are allowed to play in a secure facility with adult supervision. This, however, isn’t any average playtime as the school ensures that their comprehension, motor skills, creativity, and imagination, problem-solving, and communication skills are challenged even though they are in a controlled environment.
As part of their commitment to ensuring that the education they offer children is top-notch, AIS successfully achieved accreditation from the Council of International Schools (CIS). The CIS accreditation ensures that the school is globally recognised by ministries, universities, and departments of education.
To top that off, CIS commended AIS for promoting intercultural learning, top-of-the-line learning facilities, genuinely effective learning opportunities for students, effective implementation of staff best practices and policies, and the respectful relationship established between students and teachers.
The school’s administration was also lauded for providing sound guidance which is critical to the success of any educational institution. Currently, The Australian International School Thao Dien has received commendation from colleges around the world, including the University of South Australia, University of Tasmania, and Deakin University.
