Sunway International School (also recognised as SIS) offers the Ontario school curriculum which is ranked as one of the best in the world for offering a school education. SIS provides a nurturing environment at school which encourages the students to excel both academically and personally.
SIS strives to provide the best learning experience to its students and helps them reach their full potential. They also encourage parent engagement and involvement in the schooling lives of their children, considering it an important contribution to the development of the young peoples’ personal growth.
The educators or teachers at SIS are well-qualified and the majority of them have been trained in Canada and certified by OCT (Ontario College of Teachers). Teachers employ a wide range of teaching strategies coupled with a variety of different types of assessments.
Sunway International School follows the world renowned Ontario Secondary School curriculum from Grades 7 to 11. The Middle School focuses on helping the students with a smooth transition from primary to secondary school. In Grade 9 and 10, students build a strong academic foundation through the study of diverse subjects.
This Ontario schooling system is considered among the best in the world, with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) ranking the Ontario or Canadian education system has consistently ranked as one of the top 5 educational regiments in the world.
The programme is semester based and learning is through a variety of mediums such as projects, field trips, assignments, group tasks and traditional research. In Grade 11 and 12, students are prepared for pre-university by giving them a choice to select specialised subjects.
Students are also guided towards the right education path, based on their choice of subjects. SIS also provides the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) for students from the age of sixteen up to nineteen years old. The programme encourages students to excel both personally and academically, preparing them for university and life beyond.
The IB Diploma programme offers a different academic challenge compared to the Canadian syllabus, placing importance over the student’s personal and individual development and a different approach to that of receiving the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) that will be granted by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
The IB modules aim to provide more than just academic curriculum by also developing an inquiring, caring, and knowledgeable young learner who is motivated to succeed on his or her own merits.
The vast majority of teachers and faculty staff are from Canada, and besides the annual certification from the OCT all of them are also required to possess at the very least, a qualified teaching degree from a recognised university, with certifications from a variety of teaching bodies. Given their broad experience, educators at SIS bring a wide spectrum of teaching and learning strategies to the classroom, ensuring the highest possible learning outcomes for SIS pupils.
A varied array of assessments and evaluations are also carried out on all students throughout the school year, to meet the exceptional learning potential that children are capable of, both inside and outside the classroom. Some of the other learning activities include leadership skills building, community outreach initiatives, and field trips to varied environments to learn about nature, other cultures, and their associated histories.
