Cebu International School is a private secular institution offering a Preschool to Grade 12 international education. Cebu International School was founded in 1924 as the Cebu American School and grew from a multi-level tutorial 5-room schoolhouse to a complete K through 12 school by 1986.
The school aims to develop well-balanced global citizens who are intelligent, environmentally concerned and respectful of universal moral values within the multinational environment of an ever-changing interdependent world.
When it comes to learning methods, the school opts inquiry-based learning, an approach to education in which students are fully engaged by asking questions, reaching for answers, making bigger-picture connections, reflecting on learning, and taking action.
Offering education from as early as 2 years to 18 years old, the school prepares students differently for each level. In the early years, the school focuses on the development of the whole child through an inquiry-based learning approach that expose children to worldwide perspectives while ensuring their full academic development within solid core curriculum.
Moving on to primary level, the school believes that children learn when they connect new knowledge with existing knowledge. In the process the children learn social, thinking, research, self-management and communication skills necessary for all learning. For Middle School and High School level, students follow a curriculum that is informed by the principles of the International Baccalaureate with students exemplifying attributes of the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile.
While it prepares students for the International Baccalaureate Diploma, it also exposes students to a range of regional, national and global contexts and provides opportunities for students to use higher-order thinking. Each subject taught provides students with knowledge, skills and understandings. The goal is for assessment to be an honest and productive experience that promotes life-long learners who believe that a positive attitude is the key to success, and who are motivated to take responsibility for their education.
The school has 3.2 hectares of land, 7,500 square meters of instructional space which includes classrooms, laboratories, computer rooms, art rooms, music rooms, canteen, offices and a gymnasium. The football field is full-sized, the car park can hold 150 cars and the compound is very secure.
