Shattuck St. Mary’s School

Shattuck St. Mary’s School (or officially Shattuck – St. Mary’s Forest City International School) describes itself as a global learning community which honours tradition and embraces innovation. It is a reputed school located in Forest City, the first ecologically green city in South East Asia situated on the southern tip of the Peninsular Malaysia on Pulau Satu, Johor, and with Singapore visible across the Johor Strait.  This American influenced school is built on the collaboration between Forest City Malaysia and Suzhou, China.

The school offers education to students from preschool through secondary levels. The school cultivates creative, independent thinking which helps students to grow up to be responsible citizens. International School in Johor

Shattuck-St. Mary’s, Forest City provides a complete view of learning for children between three and eighteen years of age. The school is divided into different divisions based on the varied stages of development from a child into an adult.

In similar fashion, the school has split the Early Childhood, Primary, Middle and High School curriculums (based on what they want the children to learn) into the following general learning areas: English, Maths, Science, World Languages, Social Sciences, Performing and Visual Arts, as well as Physical and Health Education.

Shattuck St. Mary’s School has four distinct divisions – Early Childhood (ages 3 to 6), Elementary School (ages 6 to 11), Middle School (ages eleven to fifteen), and High School (ages fifteen to eighteen). Each division has its own principal who is in charge of the division. The school delivers the  American curriculum focused on the long tradition of academic rigor and creativity developed in Shattuck – St. Mary’s school in Minnesota, USA over the last 160 years.

Shattuck St. Mary’s School provides a strong foundation for children to experience the joy of learning in their lives, bringing together the values of New Zealand’s bilingual, bicultural Te Whāriki and China’s Anji Play curricula. At the Elementary School level, the school takes pride that the elementary students develop a solid foundation in basic numeracy and literacy skills while encouraging them to explore their passions in a variety of fields, from science to the arts, from engineering to athletics.

Johor International School

The school boasts of energetic and highly qualified teachers who are able to deliver the best learning outcome to students. Most than half of the teachers are from the United States, with the rest being expats from English speaking countries such as Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Apart from the American curriculum, the school has some unique offerings for its students.

One of these is ‘ScholarShift’ which is a method of preparing secondary students for a smooth transition from school to university. During this, students of the 10th grade take classes in English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Modern Languages following a special routine over and above their normal class routine. These specially designed modules provide students with an opportunity to express their creativity and innovation and get prepared for a rigorous university course.

The school also offers ‘WeCreate’, a space and a philosophy which inculcates creativity, collaboration and innovation. Students are motivated to pursue their individual passion. This space has studios to learn digital production, fashion design, graphic design, e-design, architecture, music editing and recording, robotics, woodwork, electronics and engineering.
