Charis International School

Charis International School (also known as CIS) is the first international school in Malaysia and the third international school in the Island of Borneo. The school was started in 2014. The school occupies 4 floors in the new landmark of Tawau, Calvary Crown; a multi-purpose ten story building located right in the heart of the city.

The school follows the Cambridge curriculum providing education to primary and secondary students. The school ties up with the local community and offers education to outstation and international students. The school emphasises the English language due to its importance in communication.

International School in Sabah

Charis International School boasts of a faculty team consisting of dedicated and qualified teachers. The teacher community consists of both local and expatriates from UK, America, South Africa, India, Australia and Philippines.

Charis International School, a K-11 school, is a registered primary and secondary school in Cambridge International, offering middle, lower secondary and IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education). Charis International Kindergarten (CIK) closely follows the UK’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and is good preparation for the children for Cambridge Primary. The curriculum is well developed, providing the children with opportunities to improve in all areas of their lives.

The teaching methods facilitate both confidence building and critical thinking skills for students. Throughout addition to the core subjects, children also develop practical life skills, independence, resilience, innovation, tolerance, cooperation and a positive attitude toward others. CIK is appealingly designed and configured to provide children with the conducive environment to learn through hands-on experiences.

The multi-cultural background of students adds an international flavour to the school environment. The school arranges guest faculty to come and teach students and share their experience. The school engages students in activities outside the classroom to provide them with a complete understanding of the world.

International School in Tawau

The team of dedicated, qualified and experienced local and expat teachers from the United Kingdom, America, South Africa, India, Australia and the Philippines brings a sense of international mindedness to the school environment and enriches the experiences offered.

There are innumerable clubs in the school such as swimming club, cooking and baking club, fitness club, drama and performing arts club and primary glee club to promote co-curricular activities. Students go for an educational tour to foreign countries where they get valuable experiences.

CIS invited Professor Dr Debra Sim Si Mui to hold a workshop for students and teachers on “Learning About Thinking.” Prof. Sim teaches at the University of Malaya’s Medical Faculty and will regularly come to train the students to improve their critical thinking skills to become independent and lifelong learners. Other experienced educators from Singapore and elsewhere will also be invited to provide their assessment and input in order to keep the school growing in the right direction.

International school education is the preferred education to give children a better start to a globalized world which is rapidly changing due to advances in digital technology as well as the need to improve English language skills for effective global communication. In the 21st century classrooms of Charis International School in which smart TVs, Apple TVs, iPads and computers are part of the learning resources- in the classroom and in collaboration between students, teachers and parents, CIS is well prepared to take our children to this challenge.
