Tenby International School Ipoh

Tenby International School Ipoh was first established in 1960 by British expatriates who wanted their children to receive high-quality education based on the British system. The school started as an expatriate kindergarten that then became an international school, Tenby International School (TIS) Ipoh, which later expanded to include a private Malaysian school, Sekolah Tenby.

Since then, Tenby International School Ipoh has grown to become one of South-East Asia’s largest groups of private international schools, with six purpose-built campuses across the Malaysian Peninsular including Tenby International School Johor Baru and one campus in Sarawak, Tenby International School Miri.

The Tenby Schools organisation is one of the country’s few academic organisations to run a dual-stream program, one that incorporates the best elements from both local (Sekolah Sri Tenby) and international (Tenby International School) curriculum. This unique model ensures Tenby campuses are dynamic places where students living in a globalised world can welcome a variety of different experiences and be well equipped to succeed.

Tenby International School Ipoh is also the first school in the Tenby Schools group to offer the Cambridge International A-Level Programme beginning from 2010, alongside the other curricula on the same campus. In September 2013, the school moved to its current purpose-built campus located in the township of Bandar Meru Raya, Ipoh.

With an emphasis on promoting natural learning in a healthy study environment at the Early Years age group of between three to six years old, teachers use multiple strategies to keep kids interested and excited to discover the world around them. To accomplish this, the Early Years curriculum adopts a play-based approach, as the school assumes that children are most interested in learning by playing, while also giving them the opportunity to develop critical social and behavioral skills from a young age itself.

The program is an optimal foundational basis for your child to enter either the International School (Tenby International School) or the Malaysian National School (Sekolah Sri Tenby) upon completion. At the Primary level for either the international or national programme, the students begin to develop expertise in core subjects, while also being led to experience a world outside their classroom. The learning progress of each student is closely monitored to ensure they are always improving.

While children grow into their secondary school years, starting to take ownership of their learning and building independent critical-thinking skills is crucial for them. As such, students are encouraged to ask questions while at the same time being guided towards finding the answers themselves.

Finally, when in the Sixth Form, the students are now young adults and as such, they are expected to take accountability for both their academic performance and development of personal life skills. Smaller class sizes ensure that they have adequate time to communicate with teachers, who play the mentor role.
